Waiting Game

It was a bad week for us. The car just went bonkers and our plan to go somewhere last Friday was cancelled. Plus our budget is already tight as is it. We can only imagine how much money we need to have the car fix. And then there's Christmas. What do you do when you dont have any budget for it?

So come Saturday we planned a trip to Bristol to get something. Riding the bus is a first time for my son and he loved it a lot. The freedom from the car seat strap made him happy during the trip.

The shop where my my son's father need to go is small so we decided to just wait outside. Few meters away from a the shop is where the church ruins that we visited before. We walked and played with the leaves on the ground. We also collected some for a craft project. We put the biggest leaves that we can find in our bag.

We stayed in that same area. When my son's father took a bit longer we decided to venture further and I am so glad we did because its just pretty there.

At the back of the ruins are this cute sculptures. My son called the one at the end a blackberry.

And even further are grasslands that has so many interesting features like a band stand, graffitied walls, a fountain and a play area with so much sand and amazing wood play equipment.

It was a nice time. Something to cheer us up when our spirit are down and out. To make you forget about Christmas and all the other hassles of life and just feel the breeze on your face and feel the sun on your skin.

A Trip To The Seafront

I have been hiding inside the house since this happened . I remember promising that I am going to make the Annual Carnival Parade a family tradition but I really dont want to go out. I stayed home. Looking at my son thinking I owe it to him to see these beautiful floats as I promise him this. When my son heard the music from the parade he jumped for joy. He and his father went out to see it while I stayed home. When they left I went to the room and I remember just looking at a blank wall for the longest time. I was woken up with my son telling me stories about the floats that he saw.

Saturday came and my son is becoming restless. No choice but to go out. We went to the beach as I know that with this weather that it is going to be empty. Empty it is. And he run and played with the wet sand saying he is a digger! An awesome digger. I remember laughing at some point cuz when you are with your kid and theres sand theres something funny thats going to happen and you will laugh no matter how sad your are.

I am so glad that I went out with him. Did not erased things that had happened but felt happy even if its just for awhile. Moments with him as simple as walks like this is really magical. A child's innocence … is something that I wish I have now so that I can escape from all the bad things that adult life brings.

Owl Moment

Sadly I have to return this book! I am only allowed to have it for a week. So I took photos of the pages/ recipes that I love and said bye bye to them two funny ladies on the cover.

When we arrived at the Weston-Super-Mare library we were surprised to see that there is an event! They have and owls and face painting! For free! Theres also a table of food which is really cheap and everything looks cute and posh (sadly I werent able to get photos).

Everyone is SO accomodating and patient with my shy son. He chose an owl face painting of course. While Daddy is near the cake table.

After the face painting the guy who is holding one of the owl chatted with my son (still shy and not talking) and explained owly things. He also gave us a chance to take a photo of the cutest owl ever!

And we head out happy that we found some free events with nice people! And my son is so proud of his owl face!

Thanks to the local library! We should really come often. We used to go there every afternoon. We just got busy at the moment with school and stuff but we are going to visit more often now. To borrow some books and meet some more owls and other magical beings!

Soft Play Promise

Half term! FInally! A vacation that I cant get till my son started school. A really well deserved break.

And what better way to start it than to give my son his request! See we have been telling him that if he will eat in the school hall (he doesnt like eating lunch in school), attend his tennis lesson (he doesnt join in the class) and just be an all around good boy we can go to his fave place in the whole wide earth.

And he did try. Everyday. Before we go to school he would give me alibis to not eat in the hall but he will go and eat his lunch. Same as his tennis class! The coach is happy to announce that he is joining in the games now and not just seating in the bleachers. I am so proud that he is trying!

His fave place> Soft play area. So after his class off we go! And what a promising journey! We saw our first rainbow as a family!

Here he is playing. The soft play area is empty just us and 2-3 other kids! He is so happy everytime he is there and whats even better is that this is his prize for being so good and trying things that he doesn't fancy!

I love you Sebastian and thanks for being a good boy! You truly deserve this trip!

Brandon Hill Park Playground

Not functioning well lately. I am always dizzy hence the lack of posts. I am stuck at home while husband and son go out in our high street just to see whats new. After taking some iron supplements I started feeling better and was able to go out with them in Bristol. We just went to the library to borrow some books for my son who is learning how to read and then proceeded to the park.

We always go here but we didnt know that you can access it from the near the library!

Theres even this tree with so many pears but we cant reach it. So we just went back to play. Next time if its still there we might bring a long stick! They looks so juicy believe me! And this is the first time that I have seen so many leaves. Really autumn now. We went to walk on them and its just so much fun to listen to the crunch of those brown leaves!

Afterwards we went to the Millenium Square as thats my son's fave place. I think he is wishing to play in the fountain but by the time we got there it started to get really cold. He wants to play with the water but we are not equipped. So he just bugged the statues there. He loves them and I think if he can bring one home he will.

Blackberry Picking Part 2

So we tried cooking jam and its not a success. The jam that we made turned into brick and wont go soft again, for like ever. Epic fail. But the thing is this weather is good for the blackberries. They get ripe with the heat and we have a chance to get the jam right. We just need to pick some more from where there are lots of blackberries! Uphill!

We went here again.

We have grocery plastic to fill and we started picking our blackberries. Son is really happy to be out of the house. The air is probably making him feel better as he is a bit feverish. We actually planned to go somewhere for a day trip but we just went here instead. So that he wont get too tired.

He is cooeprative too. Sitting and looking at the view while I pick blackberries. He would go to me to help and sit when he feels tired.

And in between, we run together! He really loves this graveyard. He loves the water cistern. He loves that he is free to walk around and he loves the view. Sadly the church is close that day. I just realized how we have been in this place so many times and I havent seen the interior of the church yet. I need to see it!

After exploring we sat down to look at the campers below. I am amazed on how he is not scared of heights. We are high I am telling you. We also ate some cookies and drank lots of water. What better way to heal than to drink liquid eh.

When my husband took over my in walking with my son I am now free to go nearer the cliff to take photos and take some more blackberries near the cliff.

I catch up with them and my son's really into picking as well. Look at those stained hands!

The view of the church from down the hill. We were sitting there (where the guy in yellow sits)  earlier!

After filling our bags its time to go home. I cant help but to take photos of them.
They are so friendly. Not minding me and well the birds.

While they were going down I just realized how big my son is now. I have to confess that I expect too much from him sometimes. I was expecting him to breeze through the adjustment period in school. I thought that his going to adjust to foundation stage from preschool flawlessly. Im wrong. We are experiecing some hindrances. Mostly about him eating in school. I hope we can work it out. But this is making me down a bit. What I am not addressing is how he is really actually maturing. In walks like this he no longer needs too much control. He now listens. He knows that if he will give Mom and Dad some time (to pick blackberries) he will be given a chance to play too with us!

At home, giving him medicines is not that hard as well. Before we have to go through hell and high waters. Now we just ask him to take his medicines to feel better and he will, even if he doesnt like it much.

When we got in the car, I hugged my son tight and thanked him. He looked surprise but welcomed the cuddles because no matter how grown up he is and looks he is still my baby who loves cuddles from Mommy.

Last Day Of Summer

Weekend is a bit lazy for us. In my mind I was thinking of doing something great and unforgettable like going camping on the farthest place with the bestest things to do like kayak and my stuff. But we spent our last week of summer vacation here in our bakyardish. Morning was spent walking on the beach. My son playing with the sand and us just being cold from the wind.  Really ordinary. I think I have a post (or 2) about our beach.

Really windy that we head home few minutes after. I am so amaze of the kids who are bathing in this weather (there are quite a few)! kids really do have their own heater. I want one of those!

And we pass by an amazing car show event. With 2 boy who can resist the gleam of these vintage cars.

Son dragged me to his fave. He had got an expensive taste. A jaguar. He would circle around it and touch it. I was actually scared that the owner would tell him off but he just went round and round and no one reacted negatively. Nice.

Then he played and played while Daddy is looking for his fave.

As a Sunday treat we ate to Burger King. Yes it is a treat to us hehe. We are cheap what can I say!

After getting some food we head out for a short drive to Backwell Lake. Been a while since we went here and its nice to see lush greens around. There is this island in the middle of the lake. I always imagine Abney and Teal to live there. Son fed the ducks with few of the biscuits we have.

While of course I took photos. I love this one of the shadows of trees on the grass and the water. Its just so pretty. Nature creates such amazing beautiful scene. I feel so lucky to be able to witness it.

We always have a spare clothes for son for when he decided to take a dip on fountains. He wants to swim here but he is not allowed. This is the next best thing! Play and touch the water.

While walking my inquisitive eye caught this! Blackberries!!!!! If you are one of the blogs that I have commented on linky you will know that it is my dream to do a pick your own fruit gig. But we dont have any farm near us that offers that. And I am so delighted that we can do it for free. There was some itchy leaves there but who cares. Son is really careful and husband and I immensely enjoyed picking the black ones!!!

When we are all scratching already we stopped. We got an okay amount for a short time. And this is a summer bucket list ticked off! For free! Unexpectedly! And a bit of scratching my son went back to stalking that animals. Like this massive swan. I am actually scared but I guess the swans are use to being stalked already.

3 tired but happy souls boarded the car to go back home. Simple day really, ordinary yes but really really nice and (blackberry) rewarding one.

A Family Camping

We've started camping about a month or 2 ago and we are addicted! Husband got himself a cheap but okay tent too (we were borrowing a small tent before) from gumtree and he is keen in trying it so we off to camping we go!

This is our first time to camp alone as a family. We always go with a family friend and it was always fun and safe as they are seasoned campers already.

It is a bit scary and exciting to say the least. We also chose a different camp site. A lot farther than usual. We went to Exmoor. The drive was long and along the way we are always discovering things that we should bring but weren't able to. Potty, our mini broom and dust pan. Lantern we should have borrowed from my husband's brother.

It is rather scary too. The road to this campsite is steep and on some parts we are exposed to cliffs! Near the camp site the road is too narrow too. I was actually thinking we will be alone in there as it is a bit far (in my standard at least).

But when we arrive there are so many campers! Like a festival! And I can hear water flowing. This got me excited! As we arrive we bit late we need to assemble tent right up. Me and hubby started pitching the tent up while Sebastian my son started exploring. We let him be as the river is not deep and he is very keen on seeing and feeling the water. The best place to camp ever!

Sebastian did help when he saw the mallet!

I think he got a bit tired from all the exploring so when the tent it up he asked if he can eat.

We had a bit of hard time firing our woods as we only have those small match but we did manage to get it started. It is a bit windy so its scary to make the fire too big. Sebastian made too much mallows on stick =P

He slept like a log! I think its because the weather is good! He's having a lot of problem sleeping lately at night due to the heat. In here its cool and nice to use the duvet again! And the sound of the water flowing helps in winding him down too! He woke up with a smiley face.

Ate his breakfast at this rock! One in front of our tent. Life is good!

Early morning visitor! So cute!

Me! Laughing like crazy cuz the water is SO cold. You get use to it tho and its fun after few minutes.

Look at the water cascading. We could live here! Just so serene!

We started exploring the place together. So much prettiness! So many space to hike to!

Sadly we need to go during lunch as Husband needs to work the next day. Sebastian doesn't want to go of course saying he wants to stay in the water some more. We did give in and husband and son swam a bit even if its cold.

So they took a dip in the cold water, changed, disassemble the tent and we drove home.

But would also stop by to views like this!

It was an awesome day and we visited an awesome place! That campsite if well recommended by us! secluded and yet not lonely. We are definitely going back (hopefully next week =P)

A Sunny Bristol

Since he enjoyed Bristol last week, Sebastian my son requested for another visit in there so he can play on the fountain again. As Saturday is too rainy for a dip in the water we decided to go on a sunny Sunday (plus parking is free too on Sundays). And sunny it is indeed! After finding a parking slot on the parkway we then headed to the College Green Park and was lucky that there is an event on our visit! Meaning we can do lots of activities.

While there is a circus show in the stage my son is busy doing crafts. He also got his face painted for free. To save money we brought our own food and eat lunch near the Cathedral. Then we headed to the Anchor Square for him to play but the fountains are dry as it is used as bleachers for people who are watching the stage which shows dances. But the kids were provided a big blue mat to dance at the same time that the dancers are dancing on stage. My son did a tumbling stunt!

After burning some more calories we headed to the Harbourside to see the boats and there were big ones! An old boat is also sailing. Wowness! We went to the Centre Promenade and were glad cuz my son can play in the fountains there! He did. And he's face paint melted but he is the happiest kid that afternoon. Such a nice day! A nice way to start summer vacation too for us!
